CALIFORNIAN COMPOSER RELEASES 'ARLINGTON' - A TRIBUTE SONG FOR MEMORIAL DAY

The lyrics are simple and straightforward, but the tune goes to the very heart of Memorial Day. “Arlington” is a new tribute song released just as the nation honors its fallen heroes.

“Here on the land, make a place for me. Somewhere in your heart, leave a space for me - hold to this day,” the lyrics advise in a soaring production featuring the Los Angeles Master Chorale with full orchestra. An accompanying video features images from Arlington National Cemetery and rousing historic film footage of boot camp and celebration, along with the somber reality of combat and the faces of active duty soldiers and vets alike.

“Will you pray with me? For here I lie. Still here we stand together, always one, me and you — ever red, white and blue,” the lyrics say.

“Our mission is to capture the hearts of Americans young and old, who will pledge donations and share the music with friends and loved ones for the benefit of veterans and their families,” advised George David Kieffer, the man behind both music and video. The California-based composer, author, lawyer and civic leader was inspired to write “Arlington” after visiting Normandy, France - site of the Allied invasion during World War II.

“I was moved by two things really. First, it was a visit to Normandy and preparing a little by reading about it. Second, it is the crisis of veterans today. So many are returning with physical and emotional wounds as never before. And as much as we honor them, we’re not taking care of them,” Mr. Kieffer said, adding, “We’re all in this together.”

Mr. Kieffer has joined forces with The Land of the Free Foundation, a non-profit that celebrates the military, and its place in the nation.

“It is the veteran — not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the veteran — not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the veteran — not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the veteran — not the politician, who has given us the right to vote,” the group advises in its public outreach.

Both organizations advise that 100 percent of the funds raised go a multitude of charities and interest organizations, from the USO to the Navy Seal Foundation, Fisher House Foundation and T.A.P.S.
